Given Norfolk Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' Virginia basketball rankings (they are ranked 29th, while Hampton Roads Academy is ranked 229th), the result on Wednesday wasn't entirely unexpected.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Norfolk Christian to victory, but perhaps none more so than Justice Brown-Jones, who scored 14 points along with 7 steals and 6 rebounds. Another player making a difference was Abuna Ruop, who dropped a double-double on 12 points and 12 rebounds.
Despite the defeat, Hampton Roads Academy saw an underclassman step up: Kenzie Cooper scored 9 points along with 9 rebounds.
Hampton Roads Academy struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Norfolk Christian pulled down 17.
Norfolk Christian's victory bumped their record up to 1-0. As for Hampton Roads Academy, their loss dropped their record down to 0-1.
Norfolk Christian will square off against Salem at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. As for Hampton Roads Academy, they will head out on the road to face off against StoneBridge at 5:30 p.m. on Friday.
