The Green Bobcats are taking a road trip to challenge the Fairview Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Green is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.8 runs per game this season.
Green took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Peebles, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Bobcats sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over the Indians on Tuesday.
Jonathan Knapp made a splash while hitting and pitching. On the mound, he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going 2-for-5 with two RBI and one run.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Gabe Blevins, who went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one double. That's the most runs he has posted since back in April. Mason Neal was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Meanwhile, after only two runs in their last contest, Fairview made sure to put some runs up on the board against Menifee County on Tuesday. The Eagles came out on top against the Wildcats by a score of 11-6. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Eagles' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Like Green, Fairview also got a great game from a two-way player: Eli Cummings. He pitched 2.2 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Cummings also tossed no earned runs, which is notable because Fairview is 4-2 when he allows at most one earned run, but 8-10 otherwise. Cummings was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and two runs.
In other batting news, Tevin Smith was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs. He is becoming a predictor of Fairview's success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is 5-1 (and 7-11 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jeffery Everetts, who went 2-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI.
Fairview moved to 12-12 with that victory, which also ended their three-game losing streak. As for Green, their record is now 18-4.
Both the two teams just can't seem to miss. Green has been making plenty of contact this season, having averaged 8.7 hits per game. However, it's not like Fairview struggles in that department as they've been averaging only 5.4 hits. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Green couldn't quite finish off Fairview when the teams last played last Tuesday and fell 5-3. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
