Saint Mary is 0-10 against Salesian College Preparatory since May of 2021 but things could change on Wednesday. The Panthers are taking a road trip to take on the Pride at 4:00 p.m. Saint Mary's is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
The home team had come away the winner the last four times Saint Mary's and Pinole Valley had met, but sadly for the fans who attended this one that wasn't the case. The Panthers came up short against the Spartans on Monday, falling 10-4.
Sophia Detwiler was cooking despite her team's loss, going 1-for-2 with one stolen base and two RBI.
Meanwhile, Salesian College Preparatory entered their tilt with St. Joseph Notre Dame two weeks ago with six consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with seven. They came out on top against the Pilots by a score of 8-3. The game was the first time the Pride have beaten the Pilots on their field since April 22, 2015.
DeAmor Coleman made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over seven innings while giving up three earned runs off four hits. Coleman was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, one run, and one RBI. That's the most triples she has posted since back in March of 2024.
In other batting news, Gloria Alcaire was incredible, going 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Mia Villanueva was another key player, earning three runs and one stolen base.
Salesian College Preparatory kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 11 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits in seven consecutive matches.
Salesian College Preparatory pushed their record up to 11-5 with the win, which was their fifth straight on the road. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.8 runs on average over those games. As for Saint Mary's, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-9.
Saint Mary's speedy runners might be the difference in Wednesday's game. The Panthers have been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 4.4 stolen bases per game. It's a different story for Salesian College Preparatory, though, as they've been averaging only 1.2 stolen bases. Will they be able to secure the bases, or will Saint Mary's continue to outrun the ball?
Saint Mary's suffered a grim 16-2 defeat to Salesian College Preparatory in their previous meeting back in March. Can the Panthers avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
