The Firelands Falcons will head out to challenge the Clearview Clippers at 5:00 p.m. on Monday. Firelands is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 9.6 runs per game this season.
Last Friday, Firelands came up short against Norwalk and fell 7-4.
Jeanette Crawford made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Aubrynn Reichle was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs and one double.
Clearview came out on top against Medina Christian Academy on Saturday thanks in part to the team's impressive eight-run third inning. The Clippers blew past the Knights 14-4. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Clippers' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Alivia Ocasio was a major factor while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out ten over four innings pitched. Those ten strikeouts gave her a new career-high. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with one triple, one stolen base, and two RBI. She has been hot, having posted at least one stolen base the last six times she's played.
In other batting news, Clearview got a massive performance out of Janessa Pagan, who went 2-for-3 with three runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. Those two hits gave Pagan a new career-high. Amor' Ruiz also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Clearview was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Medina Christian Academy only posted a batting average of .111.
Clearview's victory ended a five-game drought at home and bumped them up to 3-11. As for Firelands, their loss dropped their record down to 5-7.
Clearview's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Firelands hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .357. It's a different story for Clearview, though, as they've only averaged .221. Will they be able to contain Firelands' hitters?
Everything went Firelands' way against Clearview in their previous meeting back in April of 2024, as Firelands made off with a 14-0 win. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Falcons since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
