The South Bend Clay Colonials's six-game losing streak came to an end on Tuesday. They managed a 40-34 victory over Elkhart Christian Academy. That result was just more of the same for these two, as South Bend Clay also won the last time the pair played back in January of 2023.
South Bend Clay's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Maliya Freeman, who dropped a double-double on 14 points and 17 rebounds. Freeman is on a roll when it comes to rebounds, as she's now pulled down eight or more in the last four games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Tyrece Cunningham, who scored 13 points along with five rebounds and two steals.
Despite the loss, Elkhart Christian Academy had strong showings from Ryleigh Viront, who scored eight points along with 13 rebounds and three blocks, and Justine Yordy, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Yordy has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Allison Russell, who scored four points along with four steals.
South Bend Clay's win bumped their record up to 2-15. As for Elkhart Christian Academy, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-10.
South Bend Clay will be playing at home against South Bend Career Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Elkhart Christian Academy's road trip will continue as they head out to face Calumet Christian at 7:15 p.m. on January 11th. Hopefully Calumet Christian focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 24 on Tuesday.
