It was a good run, but the Tennessee Vikings unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Tuesday. They took a 79-65 bruising from Morristown-Hamblen East. While losing is never fun, Tennessee can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Tennessee basketball rankings (they are ranked 143rd, while Morristown-Hamblen East is ranked 25th).
Kyle Cloninger was his usual excellent self, shooting 4-for-5 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 28 points and 13 rebounds for Morristown-Hamblen East. That makes it three consecutive games in which Cloninger has scored at least a third of Morristown-Hamblen East's points. Cory Carpenter was another key contributor, scoring 18 points.
Tennessee's defeat dropped their record down to 10-12. As for Morristown-Hamblen East, they are on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 13 games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-5 record this season.
Tennessee will head out on the road to face off against Unicoi County at 8:00 p.m. on Friday. Unicoi County will be looking to keep their eight-game home win streak alive. Morristown-Hamblen East will take on Morristown-Hamblen West at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
