Ripon Christian is on a ten-game streak of home wins (dating back to last season), while Rio Vista is on a five-game streak of away wins (dating back to last season): one of those streaks is about to end. The Ripon Christian Knights will take on the Rio Vista Rams at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but only Ripon Christian walked away with it. They took their contest at home on Friday with ease, bagging a 63-0 victory over Golden Sierra. Given Ripon Christian's advantage in MaxPreps' California football rankings (they are ranked 326th, while Golden Sierra is ranked 942nd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Ripon Christian's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Brady Grondz, who gained 101 total yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Grant Sonke, who rushed for 75 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries.
Meanwhile, Rio Vista got themselves on the board against Gustine on Friday, but Gustine never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 42-0 victory over the Reds at home. The score at the end of the third wound up being the final score as Rio Vista just coasted through the last quarter.
Daniel Diaz was the offensive standout of the game as he rushed for 164 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 9.6 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Damien Castellanos, who rushed for 89 yards and a touchdown on only seven carries.
Their wins bumped Ripon Christian to 10-1 and Rio Vista to 8-2.
We should be in store for an exciting game Friday as both teams have no problem gaining yardage. Ripon Christian has been on an offensive roll this season, having averaged 368.5 total yards per game. However, it's not like Rio Vista struggles in that department as they've been even better at 404 per game. With a pair of commanding offenses duking it out, the defenses are going to have their work cut out for them.
