After flying high against the Chatham Hall Turtles last Thursday, St. Mary came back down to earth. St. Mary's tough 59-34 loss to North Raleigh Christian Academy on Friday might stick with them for a while. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for St. Mary's in their matchups with North Raleigh Christian Academy: they've now lost nine in a row.
When it comes to explaining why St. Mary's lost, one person who can't be blamed is Helen Newcomb. Despite the final result, she scored 18 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Newcomb has scored all season.
St. Mary's now has a losing record at 6-7. As for North Raleigh Christian Academy, their victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 8-11.
St. Mary's will head out on the road to face off against Durham Academy at 5:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in North Carolina (Durham Academy is ranked 340th, while St. Mary's is ranked 330th). As for North Raleigh Christian Academy, they will take on South Garner at 2:30 p.m. on Monday. Hopefully South Garner focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 22 on Friday.
