The Peninsula Panthers waltzed into their matchup Tuesday with two straight wins but they left with three. They walked away with a 66-53 win over Boulder City. The win was all the more spectacular given Peninsula's disadvantage in MaxPreps's basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked 668th in California, while Boulder City is ranked fourth in Nevada).
Boulder City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Easton Welbourne, who scored 16 points along with three steals. Welbourne continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Sean Pendleton, who scored nine points.
Peninsula's victory bumped their record up to 5-8. As for Boulder City, their defeat dropped their record down to 9-1.
Peninsula will finish 2023 at home by hosting Loyola at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Boulder City will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Orange at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Orange is out to stop a three-game streak of losses at home.
