The Merritt Island Mustangs will be taking part in a tournament against the Eau Gallie Commodores at 7:15 p.m. on Wednesday. Merritt Island is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last three games.
On Tuesday, Merritt Island got the win against Heritage by a conclusive 17-1.
Grant Arnold made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Arnold was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
In other batting news, Liam Miller was incredible, getting on base in all four of his plate appearances with five RBI and one double. Wesley Lawrence was another key player, scoring two runs while going 1-for-2.
Merritt Island was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .321 or higher every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Eau Gallie had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against Cocoa Beach by a score of 6-1 on Tuesday. The Commodores haven't had any issues with the Minutemen recently, as the game was their sixth consecutive victory against them.
Aiden McMahon looked comfortable as he tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in strikeouts (five).
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Carson Lietz, who scored a run while going 2-for-2. The dominant performance also gave him a new career-high in RBI (two). Another player making a difference was Deklyn Tynan, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2.
Merritt Island's win was their eighth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 3-0. As for Eau Gallie, their record now sits at 1-0.
