The Red Mountain Mountain Lions have been a dominant force so far, but they're in the middle of a mini-slump at the moment. They took a 44-32 hit to the loss column at the hands of Mesa on Friday. Red Mountain has not had much luck with Mesa recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Red Mountain lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Macy Johnson, who scored nine points along with six steals and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Westra, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
It was another big night for Amya Bekele, who scored 21 points along with six rebounds and two steals for Mesa. Bekele continues to roll, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Anaya Packer, who scored six points along with 11 rebounds.
Red Mountain's loss dropped their record down to 13-5. As for Mesa, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Red Mountain will be playing in front of their home fans against Skyline at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Skyline is looking to tack on another W to their three-game streak on the road. As for Mesa, they will square off against Mountain View at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
