Wheelersburg is 9-1 against Portsmouth West since October of 2016, and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Wheelersburg Pirates will look to defend their home field against the Portsmouth West Senators at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Last Friday, Wheelersburg got themselves on the board against Minford, but Minford never followed suit. They claimed a resounding 51-0 victory over the Falcons on the road. Given Wheelersburg's advantage in MaxPreps' Ohio football rankings (they are ranked 133rd, while Minford is ranked 463rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Meanwhile, Portsmouth West had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 25.3 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They blew past Oak Hill, posting a 49-14 victory at home.
Mason Parker was his usual excellent self, rushing for 130 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries. Parker was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 58 yards. Braden Adkins was another key contributor, rushing for 65 yards and a touchdown on only six carries.
Their wins bumped Wheelersburg to 5-3 and Portsmouth West to 8-1.
Wheelersburg came up short against Portsmouth West in their previous meeting back in October of 2022, falling 14-7. Thankfully for Wheelersburg, Ryan Sissel (who rushed for 168 yards and a touchdown) won't be suiting up this time. Will that be enough to change the final result? There's only one way to find out.
