The Kearney Catholic Stars lost against the Ashland-Greenwood Bluejays back in March of 2022, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Thursday. Kearney Catholic suffered a tough 59-33 defeat at the hands of Ashland-Greenwood. While losing is never fun, Kearney Catholic can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Nebraska basketball rankings (they are ranked 96th, while Ashland-Greenwood is ranked 12th).
Despite the loss, Kearney Catholic still got an impressive performance from Owen Axmann, who scored 13 points. Another player making a difference was Brant Christner, who scored four points.
Kearney Catholic's loss dropped their record down to 10-9. As for Ashland-Greenwood, the victory (which was their seventh in a row) raised their record to 18-2.
Kearney Catholic won't have much time to rest: their next game is against Lincoln Christian on February 9th. Hopefully Kearney Catholic focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 11 on Thursday. As for Ashland-Greenwood, they will be playing at home against Platteview at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday. Ashland-Greenwood is coming into the matchup with four straight wins at home, meaning Platteview will have to defend against a squad hungry for a victory.
