The Laurel Spartans's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fourth straight loss. They took a 57-50 hit to the loss column at the hands of Great Mills. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Laurel has scored all season.
Several Spartans players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Jermaine Taylor, who scored 15 points. Taylor is absolutely dominating the point category: he's posted at least 15 every time he's taken the court this season. Amadou Kaloga was another key contributor, scoring 13 points.
Great Mills' success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Vontez Culpepper led the charge by scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds and five steals. Culpepper continues to roll, besting his previous point total in each of the last three games he's played. Another player making a difference was Jermaine Davis, who scored 13 points along with five assists and three steals.
Laurel bumped their record down to 3-4 with that loss, which was their third straight on the road. As for Great Mills, the win was the eighth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-1.
