The Valley Center Jaguars will take on the Fallbrook Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Valley Center is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 8.1 runs per game this season.
For whatever reason, it's the away team that's had the advantage when Valley Center and Escondido meet (three straight games heading into this one) and that held true again on Thursday. The Jaguars skirted past the Cougars 7-5.
Keliah Harris spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered four earned (and one unearned) runs on ten hits.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Juliana Leichtfuss, who went 1-for-3 with two runs, one double, and one RBI. Another player making a difference was AJ Sharpe, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
Meanwhile, Fallbrook was not able to break out of their rough patch on Thursday as the team picked up their fourth straight loss. They came up short against Westview, falling 31-3.
Kayla Brown was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Val Cervera, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one double and one RBI.
Fallbrook's defeat dropped their record down to 7-9. As for Valley Center, the victory got them back to even at 9-9.
Tuesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Valley Center hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .315. However, it's not like Fallbrook struggles in that department as they've averaged .391. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Valley Center beat Fallbrook 8-5 in their previous matchup on Tuesday. Will the Jaguars repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
