Top Hawaii quarterback Sol-Jay Maiava transfers to D.C. power St. John's

One of the best quarterbacks from the Class of 2020 will finish his high school career in Washington, D.C.

Former Kahuku (Hawaii) star Sol-Jay Maiava announced earlier today via Twitter that he is transferring to St. John's Washington, D.C.) and expect the 6-foot-1, 185-pound incoming junior to take over the No. 1 spot at quarterback in 2018 for the Cadets. The D.C. power finished No. 14 last year in the final Xcellent 25 rankings presented by the Army National Guard after Joe Casemento led them to the school's first conference championship since 1989.

The Cadets are loaded heading into the 2018 season, but the big concern was who would replace Kevin Doyle at quarterback. Problem solved. Maiava is one of the most talented players in the country and with his transfer expect St. John's to be in the Top 10 to start next season.

St. John's compete in one of the toughest leagues/conferences in the country, and has a tough preseason schedule, including a four-week stretch that includes Alabama power Hoover, Miami Central, IMG Academy (Brandenton, Fla.), and against one of the most talented teams in all of Georgia — Marietta.

The Cadets should be in mix to compete for the No. 1 spot in the country in 2018 and expect Maiava to take a big leap in the player rankings with him playing against a national schedule next season.
