Montgomery Academy hasn't had much luck against Andalusia recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Montgomery Academy Eagles will head out on the road to take on the Andalusia Bulldogs at 3:30 p.m. Montgomery Academy is coming into the contest hot, having won their last ten games.
While Montgomery Academy didn't have the best season last year (they finished 11-15), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They narrowly escaped with a win as the team sidled past Reeltown 12-11.
John Allen Jones and Oscar Fiore did most of the damage at the plate: Jones scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4, while Fiore scored three runs while going 2-for-6. That's the most hits Fiore has posted since back in April of 2024.
They weren't the only ones working in the hit department: Montgomery Academy kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Andalusia's found some homefield redemption this week after a overtime loss to Slocomb on Monday. Andalusia's pitchers stepped up to hand Greenville a 14-0 shutout. The victory continues a trend for the Bulldogs in their matchups with the Tigers: they've now won seven in a row.
Riley Cravey and Connor Ray made a big impact no matter where they played. Throwing, Cravey pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Ray tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. What's more, Cravey gave up only zero earned runs, the fewest he's had since back in March of 2024. At bat, Cravey scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-1, while Ray scored a run while getting on base in all three of his plate appearances.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Asher Bentley, who scored three runs while going 2-for-2. He has become a key player for Andalusia: the team is undefeated when he posts at least two runs, but 3-5-1 otherwise. Kielan Davis was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 1-for-1.
Montgomery Academy's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 10-1. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.2 runs over those games. As for Andalusia, they now have a winning record of 6-5-1.
Wednesday's game might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Montgomery Academy has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .456. However, it's not like Andalusia struggles in that department as they've averaged .467. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Montgomery Academy couldn't quite finish off Andalusia in their previous matchup back in March of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can Montgomery Academy avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
