Even though the Chaminade-Madonna Lions scored an imposing 72 points on Tuesday, the NSU University Sharks still came out on top. NSU University strolled past Chaminade-Madonna with points to spare, taking the game 88-72. Given NSU University's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 92nd, while Chaminade-Madonna is ranked 315th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
NSU University was led to victory by Anthony Ferrer and Dwight Gaines. Ferrer scored 22 points, while Gaines scored 33 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Gaines has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Granville, who scored 11 points.
Isaac Mothersill and Michael Watson jr. certainly did their best on Tuesday to try and avoid the loss. Mothersill scored 33 points, while Watson jr. dropped a double-double on 27 points and 16 rebounds. That was a full 45.8% of Chaminade-Madonna's points, marking the eighth time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points.
NSU University's victory bumped their record up to 15-5. As for Chaminade-Madonna, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 9-13.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. NSU University will take on North Broward Prep at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. North Broward Prep knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past five matchups -- so hopefully NSU University likes a good challenge. As for Chaminade-Madonna, they will head out on the road to challenge Divine Savior Academy at 6:30 p.m. on Saturday. Divine Savior Academy has been getting the ball to fall more lately as they've increased their point totals each of their last five games.
