Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Fruita Monument Wildcats, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They took a hard 30-14 fall against Broomfield on Saturday. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Fruita Monument in their matchups with Broomfield: they've now lost three in a row.
Amari Wilson threw for 128 yards and a touchdown. Landen Phillips was his top target, picking up 50 receiving yards and a touchdown. On the ground, Andres Palafox rushed for 73 yards.
Broomfield's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from CT Worley, who rushed for 59 yards and two touchdowns on only six carries. Caleb Meehan and his 82 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Broomfield's win.
Broomfield's defense stepped up as well, laying out the QB three times. Meehan was particularly dangerous to the passing game, picking up two sacks himself.
Fruita Monument's defeat dropped their record down to 8-4. As for Broomfield, they pushed their record up to 9-2 with that victory, which was their 15th straight at home dating back to last season.
Fruita Monument does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Broomfield will square off against Mesa Ridge at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Colorado (Mesa Ridge is ranked 30th, while Broomfield is ranked 20th).
