Volleyball Recap: Jersey Snags Fifth Victory in Last Six Games

While Jersey didn't have the best season last year (they finished 10-24-1), it's starting to look like those struggles are a thing of the past. They came out on top against the Southwestern Piasa Birds by a score of 2-0 on Monday. The Panthers were shut out 2-0 the last time they took on the Piasa Birds, so the Panthers were just returning the favor.

Jersey easily took the second set, but they let things get interesting in the other. The match finished with set scores of 25-16, 25-11.

Their offense was headlined by Meredith Gray and Lauryn Turpin, who picked up ten kills apiece. They got some help from Adrian Blasa and her 29 assists. Finally, Gray was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high three blocks.

Jersey has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 9-3 record this season. As for Southwestern, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-4-2 record this season.

Jersey didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 2-1 defeat against Waterloo on the 16th. As for Southwestern, they will square off against Carlinville at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday.
