Heritage is a perfect 4-0 against Gateway since March of 2024 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. Heritage will look to defend their home field against Gateway at 6:00 p.m.
Heritage is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They fell just short of Bayside by a score of 10-8 on Wednesday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat the Panthers have suffered since April 2, 2025.
Heritage got a big performance out of Kethziel Torres, who went 1-for-3 with one triple, two RBI, and one run. Raimani Massie was another key player, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Meanwhile, it may have taken nine innings to finish the job, but Gateway ultimately got the result they hoped for on Thursday. They skirted past Poinciana 8-7. The victory was some much needed relief for the Panthers as it spelled an end to their three-game losing streak.
Ian Colon and Diego Vazqueztell made a splash while hitting and pitching. Throwing, Colon tossed 4.1 innings while giving up just one earned (and five unearned) runs off four hits. Meanwhile, Vazqueztell pitched 4.2 innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Gateway is 2-1 when Vazqueztell allows three or fewer earned runs, but 1-4 otherwise. At the plate, Colon went 2-for-4 with two RBI, one run, and one double, while Vazqueztell got on base in three of his five plate appearances with one stolen base, one run, and one double. That's the most hits Colon has posted since back in March of 2025.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Maicol Santiago, who went 2-for-5 with five stolen bases and three runs. Those three runs gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Alan Guerrero, who went 2-for-4 with two stolen bases and two runs.
Gateway's win bumped their record up to 3-5. As for Heritage, their loss was their sixth straight on the road dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-7.
Heritage came out on top in a nail-biter against Gateway when the teams last played back in March of 2025, sneaking past 3-1. Does Heritage have another victory up their sleeve, or will Gateway turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
