After a string of four wins, the Lynchburg-Clay Mustangs's good fortune finally ran out on Thursday. They fell just short of Western Brown by a score of 65-63. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest loss Lynchburg-Clay has suffered yet this season.
Despite the loss, Lynchburg-Clay had strong showings from Jade Massey, who scored 20 points along with seven rebounds and four steals, and Addison West, who scored 18 points along with six rebounds and three blocks. Massey hasn't dropped below two steals for five straight games. Another player making a difference was Macy Etienne, who scored 14 points along with two steals.
Lynchburg-Clay's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 9-4. As for Western Brown, their victory bumped their record up to 11-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Lynchburg-Clay on the road again on Thursday and play against Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington at 7:30 p.m. on January 18th. Ripley-Union-Lewis-Huntington will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Ohio Rankings (they are ranked 525th, while Lynchburg-Clay is ranked 186th). As for Western Brown, they will head out on the road to take on Tuscarawas Valley at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday.
