Virginia City had lost five straight on the road, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 2-17 to make it six. They lost 15-3 to the Pyramid Lake Lakers. The game snapped a strange streak: the last five times these teams have met, it?s been the away team that?s taken home the W.
Angel Hipolito made the most of his time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Cole Hough, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.
As for Pyramid Lake, the win got them back to even at 7-7. They haven't had any issues with Virginia City recently, as the game was their third consecutive victory against them.
On Pyramid Lake's side, John Kelly and William Darrough were major factors no matter where they played. On the mound, Kelly tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Darrough tossed four innings while giving up just two earned (and one unearned) runs off three hits. Pyramid Lake is undefeated when Kelly allows one or fewer hits, but 4-7 otherwise. At the plate, Kelly went 1-for-4 with two stolen bases, three RBI, and one run, while Darrough got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Kelly is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last five games he's played.
In other batting news, Floyd Shaw was incredible, getting on base in three of his four plate appearances with three stolen bases and three runs. Those three stolen bases gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Nataani Bitsilly, who got on base in two of his four plate appearances with two stolen bases and two runs.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Virginia City will challenge Carlin at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Muckers are facing the Railroaders at the right time seeing as the Railroaders are stuck on a 16-game losing streak. As for Pyramid Lake, they will square off against Wells at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Leopards will roll in looking for their 12th straight win, something the Lakers surely won't give up without a fight.
