Baseball Recap: Ferndale Wins Going Away Against Southeastern

Ferndale never got on the board in their matchup on Thursday, but that sure wasn't the case in their game against Southeastern on Saturday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over the Jungaleers. The Eagles might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight contests by eight runs or more this season.

Matthew Trumpy was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than one walk in eight consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with three runs and one RBI. He is becoming a predictor of Ferndale's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is 7-2 (and 5-8 when he doesn't).

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Mason Shaltis, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, three runs, and one RBI. That's the most stolen bases he has posted since back in April. The team also got some help courtesy of Taylor Williams, who got on base in all three of his plate appearances with two stolen bases and three runs.

Ferndale is on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four games. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-10 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.8 runs over those games. As for Southeastern, they dropped their record down to 10-13 with the loss, which was their fourth straight on the road.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ferndale will welcome Clawson at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Southeastern, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Communication Media Arts at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
