The Calais Blue Devils had to endure a three-game losing streak, but that streak is no more. They came out on top in a nail-biter against Sumner on Wednesday and snuck past 41-39. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Calais also won the last time the pair played back in December of 2021.
Calais was led to victory by Brenna Critchley and Kate McPhee. Critchley scored 14 points, while McPhee scored 15 points. That makes it five consecutive games in which McPhee has scored at least 25% of Calais' points.
Calais' victory bumped their record up to 2-4. As for Sumner, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-4.
Calais will wrap up 2023 with a road trip to face off against Orono at 2:30 p.m. on Friday. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are ranked near one another in Maine (Orono is ranked 90th, while Calais is ranked 67th). Sumner will finish 2023 at home by hosting Mattanawcook at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. Mattanawcook will be coming into the matchup with an undefeated record on the line.
