Murphy has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They will square off against the Theodore Bobcats at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Hopefully Murphy focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 16 on Friday.
Last Friday, Murphy was able to grind out a solid victory over Saraland, taking the game 67-54. Given Murphy's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 84th, while Saraland is ranked 335th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Kinley Simmons was his usual excellent self, shooting 6-for-9 from downtown and dropping a double-double on 23 points and 11 rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points he has scored all season. The team also got some help courtesy of Bryan Jackson, who scored 13 points along with three steals.
Meanwhile, Theodore unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They fell just short of Baker by a score of 65-62. Theodore has not had much luck with Baker recently, as the team's come up short the last eight times they've met.
Murphy has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four games, which provided a nice bump to their 17-8 record this season. As for Theodore, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.
Murphy came up short against Theodore in their previous meeting on January 5th, falling 85-75. Can Murphy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
