Softball Game Preview: Good Hope Raiders vs. Chelsea Hornets

The Good Hope Raiders will be taking part in a tournament against the Chelsea Hornets at 8:00 a.m. on Monday. Good Hope will be looking to extend their current seven-game winning streak.

Good Hope is headed in fresh off scoring the most runs they have all season. They were the clear victor by a 21-5 margin over East Lawrence on Thursday. Considering the Raiders have won nine matches by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Kylee Smith and Lizzy Steed did most of the damage at the plate: Smith went a perfect 5-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles, while Steed scored four runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance gave Smith a new career-high in RBI. The team also got some help courtesy of Maggie O'Neil, who scored three runs while going 2-for-4.

Good Hope hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Chelsea faced Helena in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Thursday. Chelsea won by a run and slipped past Helena 8-7. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory the Hornets have posted since March 5th.

Caroline Brown was incredible, scoring three runs while going 4-for-5. Sydney Carroll was another key player, scoring two runs while getting on base in three of her five plate appearances.

Good Hope pushed their record up to 11-5-1 with the win, which was their sixth straight on the road. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Chelsea, their victory bumped their record up to 14-8-1.

Monday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Good Hope hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .367. However, it's not like Chelsea struggles in that department as they've averaged .325. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
