DANE PURDY looked comfortable as he pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. He is becoming a predictor of Apex's success: when he allows at most one earned run the team is undefeated (and 2-3 when he doesn't).
On the hitting side, ADRIAN GONZALEZ was incredible, scoring two runs and stealing a base while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. What's more, he posted three hits, the most he's had since back in March of 2024.
Meanwhile, Willow Spring waltzed into their contest on Tuesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Bulldogs as they made off with a 12-1 victory. The game marked the Storm's most dominant win of the season so far.
Chadburn Turner looked comfortable as he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned run off four hits. He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up more than one earned run any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Joshua Anderson II was a standout: he went 1-for-3 with one home run and two RBI. That hit was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Jackson Sherrell, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Willow Spring hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive matchups.
Willow Spring now has a winning record of 4-3. As for Apex, their victory bumped their record up to 5-3.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Wednesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Apex has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 9.1 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Willow Spring struggles in that department as they've been averaging 7.7 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Apex came out on top in a nail-biter against Willow Spring when the teams last played back in March of 2024, sneaking past 5-4. Will Apex repeat their success, or does Willow Spring have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
