North East put another one in the bag on Thursday to keep their perfect season alive. They put the hurt on the Erie Royals with a sharp 12-2 victory. That result was just more of the same for these two, as the Grape Pickers also won the last time the pair played back in April of 2019.
Jerek Turlij made a big impact no matter where he played. He struck out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). He has been nothing but reliable on the mound: he hasn't given up a single hit in three consecutive appearances. He was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and one double.
In other pitching news, Matt Nishnick looked comfortable as he tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs off one hit. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't given up more than two hits any time he's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Derek Caraballo-Fernandez was incredible, scoring three runs and stealing two bases while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Coen Turri, who scored a run while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
North East always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .571. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
North East's record is now 5-0. As for Erie, they now have a losing record of 1-2.
Looking ahead, North East will challenge Meadville at 4:00 p.m. on April 4. As for Erie, they will look to defend their home field on Wednesday against Fort LeBoeuf at 4:30 p.m.
