The Irvin Rockets''s recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Friday after their eighth straight loss. They fell 23-13 to Austin. Irvin has struggled against Austin recently, as their game on Friday was their sixth consecutive lost matchup.
Austin got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Ruben Bustillos out in front who rushed for 208 yards and a touchdown while picking up 11.6 yards per carry. Bustillos was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 63 yards. Another player making a difference was Sal Duarte, who rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown on only five carries.
Irvin's loss was their sixth straight at home (dating back to last season), which dropped their overall record down to 1-9. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 7.2 points per game. As for Austin, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season.
Irvin does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Austin will take on Andrews at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Andrews presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Austin in Texas (Andrews is ranked 409th, while Austin is ranked 848th).
