Maria Trujillo was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over 6.2 innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off eight hits. Trujillo was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one stolen base. She has been hot recently, having posted at least one stolen base the last three times she's played.
In other batting news, Alexandra Rodriguez was a standout: she went 3-for-4 with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024. Valeria Rivera was another key player, scoring three runs and stealing three bases while going 2-for-3.
Lake Nona kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 16 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Cypress Creek unfortunately witnessed the end of their three-game winning streak on Monday. They came up short against Winter Park, falling 11-1. The contest marked the Bears' lowest-scoring game so far this season.
Lake Nona pushed their record up to 3-2 with the win, which was their fifth straight at home dating back to last season. The home victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.4 runs on average this season. As for Cypress Creek, their loss dropped their record down to 11-2.
Wednesday's matchup will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Lake Nona hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .400. However, it's not like Cypress Creek struggles in that department as they've averaged .331. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Lake Nona took their win against Cypress Creek when the teams last played back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Lions since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
