West Jefferson extended their losing streak (dating back to last season) to 20 on Wednesday, dropping their season record down to 0-10 in the process. They came up short against the North Fremont Huskies, falling 9-2. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Huskies this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 19-6 two weeks ago.
West Jefferson saw two different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Justin Perkins, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base and one double. That double marked the first that Perkins has hit this season.
As for North Fremont, their record is now 6-8-1. They not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 9th (when they won 19-6).
On North Fremont's side, Benny Torres and Hunter Hogle were major factors no matter where they played. Throwing, Torres tossed two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Hogle didn't allow a single earned run over five innings pitched. What's more, he posted five strikeouts, the most he's had since back in April of 2024. At bat, Torres got on base in three of his four plate appearances with four stolen bases and three runs, while Hogle went 2-for-3 with three stolen bases and one run. North Fremont is undefeated when Torres posts two or more stolen bases, but 3-8-1 otherwise.
In other batting news, North Fremont got a massive performance out of Saul Labra, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with four stolen bases, two runs, and one double. That's the most hits Labra has posted since back in March. Roy Wynn was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two stolen bases, one triple, and one run.
Coming up, West Jefferson will head out on the road to challenge Teton at 1:00 p.m. on Friday. The Timberwolves have struggled to contain batters this season (they've allowed 9.56 runs per game on average), something the Panthers will no doubt try to take advantage of. As for North Fremont, they will be playing at home against Challis at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Huskies' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Vikings have averaged an impressive 7.7 runs per game this season.
