The Nogales Apaches just played last night, but they'll still head out to face the Salpointe Catholic Lancers at 7:00 p.m. on January 25th. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Nogales' five-game losing streak came to an end on Wednesday. They blew past Desert View 66-35 on the road. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest win Nogales has posted yet this season.
Meanwhile, a well-balanced attack led Salpointe Catholic over Flowing Wells in every quarter on their way to victory on Tuesday. Given that consistent dominance, it should come as no surprise that Salpointe Catholic blew Flowing Wells out of the water with a 58-17 final score. Given Salpointe Catholic's advantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 42nd, while Flowing Wells is ranked 271st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Salpointe Catholic got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Isaac Lambe out in front who scored nine points. The team also got some help courtesy of Caiden Johnson, who scored eight points along with three steals.
The victory got Nogales back to even at 9-9. As for Salpointe Catholic, they are on a roll lately: they've won three of their last four matches, which provided a nice bump to their 13-7 record this season.
Nogales suffered a grim 64-39 defeat to Salpointe Catholic in their previous meeting back in January of 2023. Can Nogales avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
