MaxPreps Texas Top 25 high school basketball rankings

Cedar Hill and DeSoto -- neighboring schools separated by only six miles in southern Dallas County -- are proving this winter to be well-matched on the basketball floor.

DeSoto moved back in front of its rival to No. 5 in MaxPreps' Texas Top 25 thanks to a 66-65 four-overtime victory at No. 6 Cedar Hill on Feb. 13. It was payback for Cedar Hill's 59-58 double-overtime victory at DeSoto on Jan. 16.

DeSoto (27-4) leads a loaded District 8-6A with a 10-1 record and finishes the regular season at Duncanville on Tuesday. Cedar Hill (24-3) is a game back at 9-2 and hosts South Grand Prairie (Grand Prairie) in its final regular season game.

Top-ranked Plano West survived the stalling tactics of Flower Mound to improve to 15-0 in District 6-6A with one league game remaining at Plano East on Tuesday.

1. Plano West 25-2 (1 last week)
The Wolves survived a slowdown by Flower Mound and pulled away to a 36-21 victory with Tyler Davis leading the way with 10 points. Plano West led 6-2 after one quarter and 8-4 at halftime. The Wolves improved to 15-0 in District 6-6A.

2. Atascocita (Humble) 30-1 (2)
Junior guard Carsen Edwards notched 30 points in an 88-45 bashing of Conroe. Edwards had 26 in a much tighter 61-51 midweek victory over Kingwood. The Eagles are 13-0 in District 16-6A.

3. Clear Creek (League City) 29-2 (3)
Rashadre Wilson scored 17 points to lead an 81-58 victory over Dickinson. Earlier in the week Tyquon Jordan had 16 points in a 67-44 triumph over Clear Springs (League City). The Wildcats are 13-0 in District 24-6A.

4. Lancaster 26-4 (4)
Elijah Thomas had 19 points and Deon Barrett added 14 in a 97-50 rout of Red Oak. Coupled with a 90-63 midweek win over Ennis, Lancaster improved to 15-0 in District 14-5A.

5. DeSoto 27-4 (6)
Edric Dennis tallied 16 points in a 68-43 triumph over Midlothian. On Tuesday, the Eagles celebrated a 66-65 four-overtime victory over Cedar Hill. Dominique Thomas had 18 points and Leon Sneed scored 13.

6. Cedar Hill 24-3 (5)
Kealon Clayborne score 19 points in a bounce-back 65-49 victory over Mansfield on Friday, three days after a 66-65 four-overtime loss to DeSoto. Clayborne led the 'Horns with 25 in that one.

7. Clear Lake (Houston) 28-2 (7)
Chris Stenerson scored 16 and Bradley George had 15 in a 53-38 defeat of Friendswood. Earlier in the week Christian West and Alex Westby had 14 points in a 64-36 bashing of Brazoswood (Clute).

8. Brennan (San Antonio) 28-2 (8)
Jordan Murphy continued his scoring tear with 25 points in a 63-41 victory over O'Connor (Helotes). Earlier in the week the 6-foot-7 senior forward had 24 in a 79-64 triumph over Stevens (San Antonio).

9. Richardson 27-4 (9)
Brandon Averette scored 23 points and Ben Nakwaasah had 22 in a 70-36 pasting of Pearce (Richardson). The Eagles, now 12-1 in District 10-6A, knocked off Highland Park (University Park) 61-48 in midweek with Averette leading with 18.

10. Fort Bend Elkins (Missouri City) 26-3 (10)
Nathaniel Cephas scored 23 points in a 74-54 mauling of Fort Bend Marshall (Missouri City). Earlier in the week the Knights defeated Fort Bend Ridge Point (Missouri City) 55-57 with Cephas and Tyrik Armstrong scoring 10 each.

11. Clemens (Schertz) 27-4 (11)
Devin Kearns scored 22 in a 103-49 thumping of Wagner (San Antonio).

12. Judson (Converse) 28-5 (12)
Gevarish Carter with 14 points led the way in an 83-45 rout of Canyon (New Braunfels). Earlier in the week, Brandon Armstrong tallied 22 in a 66-56 triumph over Steele (Cibolo).

13. Beaumont Central 26-3 (13)
Port Neches-Groves (Port Neches) was no match in the Jaguars' 77-36 victory in District 22-5A.

14. Ozen (Beaumont) 26-3 (14)
The Panthers completed a 2-0 week in District 22-5A with a 74-36 road victory over Lee (Baytown).

15. Bel Air (El Paso) 29-0 (15)
Jordan Enriquez accounted for 17 points and Josh Gallegos had 15 in a 60-40 drowning of Riverside (El Paso). Earlier in the week the Highlanders topped Parkland (El Paso) 51-40.

16. Andress (El Paso) 27-1 (16)
Alvin Warren and ZZaccheus Jackson each scored 16 points in the Eagles' 74-34 rout of Austin (El Paso).

17. Rockwall-Heath (Rockwal) 27-0 (17)
The Hawks rolled on with a 59-50 victory over Poteet (Mesquite) behind 14 points by Jeremiah Sandidge, Camron Talley and Tyler Zivney. Earlier in the week, the Hawks took down South Garland (Garland) 84-60 behind 20 from Talley.

18. Amarillo 27-3 (18)
Hunter Ates scored 16 points and Michael Dawn had 15 in a 59-38 victory over Coronado (Lubbock) that sealed the District 2-6A title. Earlier in the week the Sandies topped Frenship (Wofforth) 59-42.

19. Liberty (Frisco) 27-2 (19)
Zach Watson led the way with 16 points in a 75-27 rout of Independence (Frisco). Earlier in the week, the Redhawks tripped up Frisco 61-31 behind 16 points from Nyk Mason.

20. Kimball (Dallas) 23-6 (20)
Jawun Evans notched 22 points to lead a 67-57 victory over Seagoville (Dallas).

21. South Oak Cliff (Dallas) 28-5 (21)
Christian Massingburg was at it again with 28 points in a 105-25 mauling of Molina (Dallas) and 20 points in a 90-29 thumping of Adamson (Dallas).

22. Cinco Ranch (Katy) 25-4 (22)
JR Adams notched 24 points in a 68-52 victory over Mayde Creek (Houston). Earlier in the week, the Cougars downed Katy 51-38 behind 15 points from Marcus Jones.

23. North Shore (Houston) 25-6 (24)
Kerwin Roach had 18 points and Derec Burks scored 16 in a 77-55 lashing of LaPorte. The 2-0 week included an 89-54 rout of Sterling (Baytown).

24. Houston Math Science & Tech 28-3 (NR)
Jaqualin Greene-Duplichain scored 18 points and Terrell Wilson chipped in with 15 in a 67-30 rout of Lamar (Houston) to cap a 2-0 week for the District 20-6A leader.

25. Prestonwood Christian (Plano) 26-4 (25)
Schnider Herard, Shane Missimo and Evan Peters all scored 13 points in a 63-33 drubbing of John Paul II (Plano).
