Basketball Recap: Desert View Comes Up Short

Desert View lost against Canyon del Oro back in December of 2019 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. The Desert View Jaguars were dealt a 71-44 defeat at the hands of the Canyon del Oro Dorados. While losing is never fun, the Jaguars can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Arizona basketball rankings (they are ranked 255th, while the Dorados are ranked 49th).

Desert View's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Nino Sanchez, who went 5 of 12 on his way to 15 points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luis Felix, who posted nine points and six rebounds.

Even though they lost, Desert View was working as a unit and finished the game with ten assists. That's the most assists they've managed all season.

Canyon del Oro was led to victory by Isaiah Gill and Mykael Nunez. Gill went 7 of 8 on his way to 18 points and five steals, while Nunez went 5 of 10 on his way to 14 points along with seven rebounds and five steals. Gill's evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Julian Robles, who went 5 of 8 on his way to 13 points.

Desert View is on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 2-7. As for Canyon del Oro, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-2.

Desert View didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next match, a 76-65 defeat against Maricopa on the 17th. As for Canyon del Oro, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next contest, a 55-32 victory against The Gregory School on the 19th.
