After flying high against the Knightstown Panthers last Saturday, the Waldron Mohawks came back down to earth. Waldron might have been a little too into the holiday spirit, gifting Franklin County an easy 80-55 victory. While losing is never fun, Waldron can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Indiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 275th, while Franklin County is ranked 110th).
Despite the defeat, Waldron saw an underclassman step up: Grace Fischer scored 23 points along with four steals. The contest was Fischer's tenth in a row with at least ten points. Another player making a difference was Alyssa Benson, who scored 16 points along with six assists.
Waldron struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only three offensive rebounds. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Franklin County pulled down 26 offensive rebounds.
Franklin County got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Ruby Singer out in front who dropped a double-double on 23 points and 19 rebounds. Those 19 rebounds set a new season-high mark for her. The team also got some help courtesy of Nicole Mears, who dropped a double-double on 26 points and ten rebounds.
Waldron's defeat dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Franklin County, the victory (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 10-3.
Waldron's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Oldenburg Academy at 7:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Franklin County will be staying on the road on Thursday to face off against New Palestine at 2:30 p.m. on December 28, 2023. Hopefully New Palestine focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 14 on Thursday.
