It's hard to turn regular season success into postseason wins, a fact the Center Roughriders can now relate to. They took a serious blow against Gilmer on Friday, falling 69-42. The defeat unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for Center in their matchups with Gilmer: they've now lost four in a row.
Several Roughriders players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Emonte Cross, who threw for 221 yards and three touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Kaden Dixon, who rushed for 190 yards.
Gilmer was led to victory by Dhrvay Smith and Will Henderson. Smith rushed for 201 yards and two touchdowns on only nine carries, while Henderson gained 277 total yards and five touchdowns. Henderson hasn't dropped below 100 rushing yards for three straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Cadon Tennison, who threw for 85 yards and a touchdown.
Center's loss dropped their record down to 7-4. As for Gilmer, the win was the fifth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 8-3.
Center does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Gilmer will square off against Sunnyvale at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday. Sunnyvale is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
