On Friday, the Powdersville Patriots faced the Wren Hurricanes in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Powdersville was just a bucket shy of victory and fell 65-64 to the Hurricanes. Powdersville's loss signaled the end of their four-game winning streak.
Powdersville lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Nick Sweet, who scored 17 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Sweet has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Jaleel McGee, who scored 12 points along with four steals and three blocks.
Wren's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Abijah Franklin, who scored 29 points along with eight rebounds and three steals. Franklin hasn't dropped below 18 points for 13 straight games. The team also got some help courtesy of Brock Cherry, who scored eight points along with nine rebounds and two steals.
Powdersville's defeat ended a nine-game streak of away wins dating back to last season and brought them to 19-6. As for Wren, they pushed their record up to 19-5 with that victory, which was their sixth straight at home.
Powdersville will take on the Mustangs at 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Palmetto will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 231st, while the Patriots are ranked 21st). As for Wren, they will head out on the road to take on the Bears at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Belton-Honea Path is coming into the matchup on a six-game losing streak.
