Doherty has enjoyed a three-game homestand but will soon have to dust off their road jerseys. They and the Liberty Lancers will face off at 7:00 p.m. on February 1st without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Hopefully Doherty focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Tuesday.
Doherty struggled with assists on Tuesday (the Eagles had eight more) and sadly the final score reflected it. Doherty fell 51-41 to the Eagles. While losing is never fun, Doherty can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 50th, while the Eagles are ranked sixth).
Despite the loss, Doherty had strong showings from Rachel Stewart, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds, and Tahlaya Biglow, who scored ten points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Liberty pushed their score all the way to 60 on Tuesday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 67-60 hit to the loss column at the hands of Vista Ridge. Liberty was down 56-36 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.
Doherty's defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 7-9. As for Liberty, they have not been sharp recently as the team's lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 10-8 record this season.
Everything came up roses for Doherty against the Lancers when the teams last played on Monday as the squad secured a 78-32 win. With Doherty ahead 50-24 at the half, the contest was all but over already.
