Melbourne Central Catholic and Space Coast are an even 5-5 against one another since February of 2018, but likely not for long. The Hustlers will take on the Vipers at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Melbourne Central Catholic is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They beat Cocoa Beach by the very same score they won with in their prior game: 11-1. Winning may never get old, but the Hustlers sure are getting used to it with their 13th in a row.
The team relied heavily on Rylie Lovett, who went 1-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and one stolen base. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in March.
Meanwhile, Space Coast came into Tuesday's contest having lost five straight, but that streak is now in the rearview. Everything went their way against Trinity Prep on Tuesday as they made off with a 22-1 victory. The Vipers' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Kylie Ulmer made a big impact no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching five innings while giving up just one earned run off one hit. Ulmer was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.
In other batting news, Abby Minear was incredible, getting on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs, one triple, and two RBI. Ana Muniz was another key player, getting on base in all five of her plate appearances with three RBI and two runs.
Space Coast always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .703. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Melbourne Central Catholic's win bumped their record up to 18-3. As for Space Coast, their victory bumped their record up to 13-11.
Melbourne Central Catholic took their win against Space Coast in their previous meeting two weeks ago by a conclusive 12-1 score. Do the Hustlers have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Vipers turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
