The Pacific Grove Breakers will head out on the road to face off against the Soquel Knights at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Hopefully Pacific Grove focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 18 on Friday.
Last Friday, Pacific Grove came up short against Carmel and fell 58-50. Pacific Grove has not had much luck with Carmel recently, as the team's come up short the last three times they've met.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Benjamin Liddell, who scored 11 points along with five rebounds. Those 11 points set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Oliver Ottmar, who scored seven points.
Pacific Grove struggled to work together and finished the game with only four assists. That's the fewest assists they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Soquel pushed their score all the way to 58 on Saturday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They took a 66-58 hit to the loss column at the hands of Whitney. While losing is never fun, Soquel can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 1097th, while Whitney is ranked 403rd).
Pacific Grove's record is now 3-5. As for Soquel, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-6.
Pacific Grove beat Soquel 49-37 in their previous matchup back in December of 2022. The rematch might be a little tougher for Pacific Grove since the team won't have the home-court advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
