Basketball Recap: Wellington-Napoleon Takes Loss Despite Strong Performances from Brilynn Zykan and Kale Garland

Wellington-Napoleon was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their fifth straight loss. They lost 55-32 to the Crest Ridge Cougars. Sadly, that's the second time they've come up short against the Tigers this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 64-29 back in December of 2024.

Wellington-Napoleon's loss came despite strong showings from Kale Garland and Brilynn Zykan. Garland posted seven points, while Zykan put up seven points and eight rebounds. Those seven points gave Garland a new career-high.

Crest Ridge was led to victory by Brilynn Fleming and Kayley Marten. Fleming scored 17 points along with eight assists and six boards, while Marten went 5 for 12 on her way to 12 points in addition to five rebounds and four steals. Laney Wilhite was another key player, putting up eight points and seven boards.

Wellington-Napoleon's defeat dropped their record down to 3-10. As for Crest Ridge, they pushed their record up to 10-2 with the win, which was their fourth straight at home.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight is on tap when the Wellington-Napoleon Tigers face off against the Oak Grove Panthers at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Crest Ridge, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against Lexington at 6:00 p.m. Lexington will roll in looking for their fifth straight victory, something Crest Ridge surely won't give up without a fight.
