Chavez is a perfect 10-0 against Verdugo Hills since May of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. The Eagles will be playing in front of their home fans against the Dons at 6:00 p.m. Chavez is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 6.2 runs per game this season.
Chavez is headed into Friday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Wednesday. They took a 9-5 hit to the loss column at the hands of Kennedy.
Lenina Garcia was a force to be reckoned with on the mound despite the final result: she tossed five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in seven consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Nadine Valdez was cooking despite her team's loss, going 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. The team also got some help courtesy of Yliana Rodriguez, who went 3-for-4 with two RBI and one double.
San Fernando hit Verdugo Hills with a four-run seventh inning on Wednesday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Dons fell just short of the Tigers by a score of 5-4. The Dons haven't had much luck with the Tigers recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.
Madesyn Meadows put in work no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over five innings while giving up just one earned run off five hits. Meadows was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with two runs and one double.
In other batting news, Bella Garibay made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went 2-for-4 with four RBI and one double. That double was her first of the season. Another player making a difference was Lauren Brink, who went 2-for-4 with one triple and one run.
Chavez's loss was their first in the league, dropping their league record down to 4-1 and their overall record down to 9-12. As for Verdugo Hills, they now have a losing record of 5-6-1.
Friday's match will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Chavez hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Verdugo Hills struggles in that department as they've averaged .338. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Chavez came out on top in a nail-biter against Verdugo Hills in their previous meeting back in April, sneaking past 3-1. Do the Eagles have another victory up their sleeve, or will the Dons turn the tables on them? We'll have the answer soon enough.
