Video: 722 yards in one game
See Journey Brown's big game for Meadville. When Meadville (Pa.) defeated DuBois (Pa.) 107-90, it produced some of the most remarkable statistical performances in high school football history. So it's no surprise that three players from that game are the leaders in this week's National Football Stat Stars.
Journey Brown of Meadville set the state record with 722 yards rushing and also moved into the No. 2 spot all-time behind John Giannantonio of Netcong (N.J.), who ran for 754 yards in 1950.
Meanwhile, DuBois receiver Colin Read broke the state record for receiving yardage in a game with 362 yards. His quarterback, Matt Miller, broke the NFHS record for passing yardage in a game with 787. The record was 764 by David Koral of Palisades (Pacific Palisades, Calif.). The most yards ever thrown in a single high school game is 837 by Will Grier of Davidson Day (Davidson, N.C.), however Davidson Day is not a member of the National Federation of State High School Associations.
The Pennsylvania kids weren't the only record breakers last week. Joe Golter of Holy Family (Broomfield, Colo.) also put his name atop the record book in Colorado. One week after Holy Family quarterback Chris Helbig set the state record for passing yardage in a game, Golter set the receiving yardage mark with 336 yards.
All statistics are taken from the MaxPreps statistical database and are turned in by a school coach or representative.
