After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Cedar Grove, The Douglass Astros were happy to have found some success on Friday. They walked away with a 17-7 win over Carver. This was payback for Douglass, who suffered a 38-5 defeat the last time these two teams met.
Douglass was led to victory by Kenyon Stocker and John Wilson. Stocker picked up 76 receiving yards and a touchdown, while Wilson rushed for 35 yards and a touchdown.
Despite the defeat, Carver saw an underclassman step up: Lataious Stepp jr. rushed for 102 yards and a touchdown.
Douglass' win was their third straight at home, bumping their overall record up to 6-3. Admittedly, the team didn't face the toughest opposition across those games, namely Carver, Lithonia, and Stone Mountain. As for Carver, they have fallen quite a ways from their 9-4 record last season and are now at 2-6.
Douglass will have some time to savor their victory since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Sandy Creek at 7:30 p.m. on November 3rd. Carver will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Cedar Grove at 8:00 p.m. on November 3rd. Cedar Grove presents a significant challenge as they come into the match much higher ranked than Carver in Georgia (Cedar Grove is ranked 48th, while Carver is ranked 167th).
