Basketball Recap: Tumwater Skates Past Montesano with Ease

Tumwater won against Capital last Friday with 69 points and they decided to stick to that point total again on Friday. The Tumwater Thunderbirds claimed a resounding 69-23 victory over the Montesano Bulldogs. Fans of the Thunderbirds have seen this all before: every one of the games they've played this season has ended in a blowout of 20+ points.

Josh Schlecht was nothing short of spectacular: he went 5 for 7 on his way to 15 points and four steals. The dominant performance gave him a new career-high in points. The team also got some help courtesy of Luke Overbay, who posted ten points and five rebounds.

Tumwater was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now racked up at least 20 assists in four consecutive contests.

Tumwater's win bumped their record up to 4-0. As for Montesano, they are on a four-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-6.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Tumwater and Adna will face off at 7:00 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. One thing working in Tumwater's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points every time they've taken the court this season. As for Montesano, they and Wahkiakum will face off at 2:30 p.m. on Saturday without much rest having both just played. Wahkiakum knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past four matchups -- so hopefully Montesano likes a good challenge.
