Ben Dalto put in work no matter where he played. On the mound, he pitched three innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off two hits. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up more than two hits in five consecutive appearances. He was even better at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, three runs, and two RBI. That home run marked the first that he has launched this season.
Dalto wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Willie Kimbler, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base and one run.
Meanwhile, Coxsackie-Athens never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They blew past Watervliet 14-0. The Riverhawks might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won 12 matches by seven runs or more this season.
Like Albany Academy for Boys, Coxsackie-Athens also got a great game from a two-way player: Brendan Woytowich. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out nine over four innings pitched. Woytowich was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 3-for-3 with five RBI, one stolen base, and one run. Those five RBI gave him a new career-high.
In other batting news, Alex Slater was a standout: he went 2-for-3 with two runs, two doubles, and two RBI. Those two doubles gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Andrew Sager, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one run.
Coxsackie-Athens has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won eight of their last nine contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-4 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Albany Academy for Boys, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 4-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Albany Academy for Boys has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.7 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Coxsackie-Athens struggles in that department as they've been averaging 9.1 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
