Basketball Recap: Beckham Bayles Key Part of a Team Effort in Pirates Win

Cyprus won the last time they faced Taylorsville and things went their way on Tuesday too. The Cyprus Pirates took down the Taylorsville Warriors 85-66. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Pirates.

Cyprus' win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Beckham Bayles, who went 8 of 16 on his way to 25 points and six assists. Bayles' evening made it three games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Koli Fosita, who went 7 of 11 on his way to 15 points along with eight rebounds and three steals.

Bayles wasn't the only one working in the assists department: Cyprus was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their assist total in three consecutive matchups.

Taylorsville's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Logan Bertagnolli, who posted 23 points and five boards. With that strong performance, Bertagnolli is now averaging an impressive 15.1 points per game. The team also got some help courtesy of Kobe Allen, who almost dropped a double-double on 20 points and nine assists.

Cyprus' victory bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Taylorsville, they have traveled a rocky road recently having lost four of their last five contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-10 record this season.

Cyprus will square off against Juan Diego Catholic at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th. As for Taylorsville, they will challenge Kearns at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. Taylorsville has been dominant on offense recently, having racked up an incredible 189 points over their last three games.
