It was a good run, but the Deshler Dragons unfortunately witnessed the end of their four-game winning streak on Friday. They suffered a tough 67-44 defeat at the hands of Shelton. Deshler has not had much luck with the Bulldogs recently, as the team's come up short the last five times they've met.
Despite the defeat, Deshler saw an underclassman step up: Easton Nash scored 16 points along with three steals. Carson Sieber was another key contributor, scoring eight points along with five rebounds and two blocks.
It was another big night for Riley Bombeck, who dropped a double-double on 22 points and ten rebounds for Shelton. Bombeck is on a roll when it comes to steals, as he's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games he's played. Another player making a difference was Ben Myers, who scored 11 points along with three steals.
Deshler's loss dropped their record down to 8-7. As for Shelton, they pushed their record up to 17-1 with that victory, which was their fourth straight at home.
Deshler is on the road again on Saturday and plays the Warriors at 10:00 a.m. on February 3rd. The matchup should be an exciting one, as these teams are closely ranked in Nebraska (Red Cloud is ranked 201st, while the Dragons are ranked 196th). As for Shelton, they won't have much time to rest: their next matchup is against the Raiders at 1:30 p.m. on February 3rd.
