Johnstown-Monroe hasn't had much luck against Newark Catholic recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. The Johnnies will head out to square off against the Green Wave at 7:00 p.m. Both come into the contest bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Johnstown-Monroe proved they can win big on Tuesday (they won by three) and on Monday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged out Northridge 3-2. The game was the first time the Johnnies have beaten the Vikings on their court since September 5, 2023.
Johnstown-Monroe took Northridge into a fifth set where they got it done with a seven-point win. The final score came out to 25-15, 13-25, 15-25, 25-16, 15-8.
Johnstown-Monroe relied on the efforts of Luciana Smith, who had 29 digs and three aces, and Ava Ruffle, who had 11 digs and five aces. What's more, Smith racked up seven assists, the most she's had since back in August.

Newark Catholic had won 17 straight games and Veronica Bailey did her part to make it 18 on Thursday. The Green Wave came out on top against Utica by a score of 3-1 thanks in part to Bailey, who had 11 digs and two assists. Smith is also on a roll when it comes to digs, as she's now had 14 or more in each of the last 15 games she's played.
Newark Catholic had a slow start but a hot finish: after dropping the first set, they turned around to win the next three. The match finished with set scores of 21-25, 25-18, 25-11, 25-14.
Johnstown-Monroe's record now sits at 14-6. As for Newark Catholic, their record is now 18-0.
Johnstown-Monroe couldn't quite get it done against Newark Catholic when the teams last played back in September as they fell 3-1. Can the Johnnies avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
